Work & Worry Presents! March 13 @ The Boston Center For The Arts

Work & Worry, in partnership with The Boston Center for the Arts, will be presenting the next installment of the venerable “Overheard/Underground” series, on March 13, 2010. The lineup is a great one, featuring the electric guitar soundscapes of David Daniell & Douglas McCombs (whose fantastic LP Sycamore came out last year on Thrill Jockey), 6 and 12-string master and American Primitive scholar Glenn Jones, and the twin acoustic attack of my duo, Pairdown.

The doors will open @ 7PM, and music starts at 7:30. Performances will take place in the Mills Gallery at the BCA, 539 Tremont St in the Boston South End. The gallery only seats 65, so get there early!

Strange Attractors Announces Release Date For “The Things We Used To Do” DVD

Strange Attractors Audio House has set a release date for The Things We Used To Do, a DVD of performances by Glenn Jones and the late Jack Rose. Here is the news item, from their website :

“Coming March 23, 2010 will be the long-awaited release of The Things That We Used to Do, a very special, intimate performance DVD of Jack Rose and Glenn Jones, each artist playing solo and together. The footage was shot expressly for this project in a loft in Brooklyn, NY. The takes are live, but the performances are not in front of an audience, but rather in front of the camera. The result is both a mini-documentary and a total celebration of two artists, collaborators, best of friends whose art serves to illuminate the breadth of solo guitar, from its roots to where it is today, and how the tradition is being carried forward on into the future. Includes a 30-minute interview of each player together by Byron Coley, and bonus live footage shot in concert in Philadelphia, March 2009. A one of a kind, remarkable document of the two leading lights of solo acoustic steel string guitar in their prime.”

File this one under VERY highly anticipated!

C Joynes “Revenants, Prodigies And The Restless Dead”

New on Immune Recordings, the latest from English guitarist C Joynes… Joynes calls his style “Anglo-Naive and Contemporary Parlour Guitar”, and it’s a clever (yet fitting) description! The album features a wide range of melodic approaches, with influences ranging from minimalism to British folk, from country blues to Indian classical music and more.

Check out this piece about Joynes on Dusted, and buy the limited edition LP from Immune Recordings or the CD from Bo’Weavil.
